Reading Assignment 2

At Christmas dinner, Pip is very panicky because he is afraid he is going to be caught for his theft. He's also angered because of the way that the adults in his life treat him. When the soldiers come for Joe's blacksmith skills in fixing their handcuffs a cannon is fired. They, the soldiers and Mr. Wopsle, Pip, and Joe set out to find them. Pip is very scared that when they find the convicts they will tell of his theft and he will be in trouble. Although the convict says nothing of Pip, he is still very reluctant to tell Joe about the whole ordeal and decides to keep it to himself.
Pip's early education was limited because he only had Biddy, who taught him everything she knew, which just wasn't enough as what Pip wanted. Joe didn't get schooled when he was a young boy because of his abusive father, who drank the money that would have gone to Joe's schooling. However, when Mrs. Havisham summons Pip to come play at her house, hopes arise that she will make a gentleman out of Pip.
